FoodSaver FSFRAN0224 Freshsaver Deli Container, 2-Pack Review

A set of 2 deli containers came with my Freshsaver, plus I bought a set of 2 additional ones.

These do work well for lunch meat, but it is alittle tight I think if you are going to put in an entire pound of lunch meat, like it says it holds.

I have also used them for brownie bites, California Rolls, and strudel bites.

I also have the Foodsaver bags, but the deli containers are nice for things like bakery items, which are kind of delicate.You can keep the air out without squishing the contents.

They do hold a fair amount, so I intend to also use them for leftovers.I do also use them for deli meats.

A very versatile item!

Be sure to wash at least the lid by hand, like the company says you should.I have put the bottoms in the top rack of my dishwasher, but I normally just wash them by hand, along with the lid.It doesn't take long!

Medlight 630 Pro Review

You might not believe it, but this unit actually works really well. It has to be used as part of a pain relief regimen and is not a silver bullet by itself.Depending on the type of pain and location of the pain, it can be as little as four minutes or as long as twenty for complete relief.The unit has a 4.5 minute timer on it and works on the technology from NASA that they have developed over the last 30 years.

For me, it is all about my knees.I am too young for knee replacement and refuse to give up riding my bike or running as part of my excercise regimen. They told me I had to stop.What happens is my knees get "crunchy" 12 to 24 hours after I excercise heavily.This is how the unit works for me. I use it on my knees directly over the bone, and when you go over bone with the unit it takes a little longer for the full effect. However, since the unit comes with a strap, I can use it while watching TV with no problem. After 16-20 minutes, my knee is no longer crunchy, doesn't hurt and if I don't keep up the regimen, I still get 3 to 4 days without pain and no crunching. When it comes back, if I use it I will get another 3 to 4 days without problems.That is when I forget to keep using it.

When I use it either daily or every other day to 3 days, the pain NEVER comes back. Period.It also works wonderfully when I am stuffy from sinuses and I have family members that use it for neck and arthritis pain and they love it.

The unit is Fully UL and FDA approved (a huge factor when I bought it, it means they invested in making sure the unit works medically and that it is safe electrically). The power supply is a medical grade power supply, UL60601 is for hospital power supply electronics!

I would recommend this to anyone who suffers from chronic pain, like joint pain, arthritis, headaches, back pain etc. Because nobody wants to end up addicted to pain killers!

Norpro Mandolin Slicer Review

Oxo Good Grips V-Blade Mandoline Slicer Review

I read all of the bad comments about this mandoline here on Amazon and read all the good product reviews in different magazines and decided to take the plunge and buy it.I have since used it extensively.While I don't find this product perfect (hence the 4 stars), I do enjoy having it quite a bit.There are several great features for this product:

>> The blades are mostly hidden within the base, with only 2 blades packaged in a separate plastic box - everything is in one place!It saves a lot of kitchen space.

>> Most of the parts are dishwasher safe, everything but the blades.It makes clean up easy.

>> There are some food snags and it's not at smooth cutting as it might be, but it's still a whole lot faster than cutting little tiny slices of things by hand.I did 1 1/2 pounds of thinly sliced cucumbers for pickles in minutes.

>> Unlike other people, I don't have a problem with the grip for the most part.It's difficult to use with small and narrow things(carrots, celery, etc), but it works great for the bigger things.I suspect some people just haven't figured out how to use it properly yet if they've given the grip bad reviews.The woman who almost hit her dog with an onion?I've done lots of onions without any problem at all.

>> The food grip is safe.I know other people have complain about the danger involved in using this product, but ALL mandolines are dangerous!Just because this one's inexpensive doesn't make it more dangerous than the $300 ones.

>> The rubber grips on the feet keep the mandoline from sliding around while you're using it.

There are some cons to this product:

>> The blades are a bit hard to clean and are not dishwasher safe.I'm sure this is because dishwasher soap dulls blades more than anything else, but it's still something of a pain to clean the blades.

>> The food does occasionally snag.

>> The "Bowl grip" intended to fit over the sides of a bowl for easy use won't fit on any of the 12 mixing bowls of various sizes I have.

>> The disassembly and reassembly of the mandoline is not intuitive.There is a nice diagram in the instructions though.

Overall, I think this product is a good one.It's not perfect, there is an element of danger in using it, and there are things that could be improved to make this a better mandoline (solving the snagging problem would be a good start), but it's a great product for people who want a mandoline but can't shell out $200+ for one.You can't beat the price!This mandoline would also be a great product for someone who is new to mandolines and doesn't want to pay a premium for something they're not sure they'll like and/or use.I love mine!I probably won't end up upgrading to the more expensive one as this suits my purposes just fine.

Weston Meat Grinders Review

Upon receiving the package, the front ring nut wasn't machined properly and it even had a hole in the side; looks like a poor cast job. I called customer service and got a replacement. It also seems to fit better too.

Okay, now onto using it. It grinds stuff fairly well, and there won't be any complaints here. However, after using it, I washed it, dried all of the components, reassembled it and put it back in the box for storage.

The next time I used it, I noticed rust along all of the non-tinned parts. This includes the crank handle, the knife, the plate, the clamp screw, the thumbscrew. They should have made this from stainless steel instead of tin plating.

No big deal, I just re-washed it and coated it with vegetable oil. Now, after having used it a few times, the tin plating has chipped off the plates, the auger and grinder body where they meet when spinning; along the shaft as well as at the ends.

I think it's too late to return this now, and probably too much hassle. I would not recommend that anyone purchase this item. It looks like cheap overseas manufacturing with no quality control.

Weston Restaurant Quality French Fry Cutter Review

Having tried any number of wimpy french fry cutters, I finally bit the bullet (premium pricing) and ordered this one.

It is the bomb.

When I opened the box, I was stunned at the durability promised by the quality of the components. The cast iron parts (lever arm, feet and frame) are covered with a nice soft green finish so thick that I can't tell whether it's a really good powder coating or baked enamel. Most important, the cutter heads and their heavy metal frames are strong enough to cut yams with no sign of flexing that might otherwise threaten a broken frame. However, yams may mush up before they will pass through the cutter. I wound up with one yam that yielded only two-inch-long shoestrings, even when I used a series of full-body presses on the armature in trying to force the yam through. Better to use a mandoline and/or a chef's knife for yam fries, I've concluded.

But never fear: potatoes work fine in the Weston, particularly if you've left Russet spuds in a cool dark place for a month or two before cutting. That way, some of their starch will convert into sugars that will make your fries tastier and crisper.

Cutter heads are a snap to change, using three hand turned wing-nuts. The pusher head can be replaced by undoing two large and relatively accessible Phillips-head screws. Another great feature is the availability of important optional accessories, like different size cutter heads and huge suction cups that attach to all four feet for a great grip on granite counter tops. These suckers are even made of a green rubber that matches the color of the frame.

Nobody's perfect, nor is this product. The suction cup feet are attached by poking protruding bolts through the feet of the cutter and screwing on their locknuts. Trouble is, the bolts I got were too short to rise above the holes in the feet. I solved that one by shaving an eighth of an inch disk off of the top of each suction cup using a paring knife, to make the bolt protrude far enough for the nut to "grab."

Other problems were a bit more vexing. The two screws that held the pusher plate to my machine were tightened to the point where the thick lockwashers behind them had totally flattened out. These folks must have gorillas working on their assembly line. It took a brace and bit to loosen the screws to the point where I could remove them and replace the pusher head. Also, proper assembly of the unit called for the use of a couple of wrenches to properly tighten the bolts holding the armature in place.

Big deal. This product is a joy to use, really does work splendidly with spuds up to six inches long, is easy to operate and clean up when done. If you can afford it, accept no substitutes.

Weston Professional Stainless Steel Mandoline Slicer Review

I was not pleased with the performance of the Weston Mandoline.The machine was not adjusted very well and when vegetables were sliced the machine basically chewed up the veggies after they passed over the blade.The slicing was not very smooth.

Norpro Salsa Screen Review

Maybe we were expecting too much...the salsa screen did not remove ANY seeds and a lot of the good, thick meat of the tomatoes went out the end of the saucemaster with the skin.What we were left with was not what I call good, thick textured salsa.It was more like very seedy, runny tomato mush.We would rather cut the tomatoes by hand than run them through the salsa screen.Chalk us up as disappointed...

Victorinox Swiss Peeler, Polypropylene Handle Review

I received this peeler from a fellow chef who sold knives and peelers in his spare time to other chefs.He'd stocked a bunch but couldn't get any one - chefs or not - to buy one because of the weird shape, and had resorted to giving them away for free.I was suspicious of it at first, too.It sat at the bottom of my toolbox for months until the peeler at home gave out, and this one got pulled into rotation.It does take a little getting used to (you peel away from yourself, vs. towards yourself, and at a slight angle), but you get the hang of it quickly and not only do you peel faster, but it's much safer.I accidentally threw out my peeler and had to go back to a regular swivel peeler, but now I can't stand it.I'm going back to Victorinox.
