Vacu Vin Stainless Steel Pineapple Easy Slicer Review

I bought the stainless steel pineapple slicer because I had been given the plastic model. The plastic slicer did a very nice job, but I knew it wasn't going to last very long.However, for some reason the steel version is smaller than the plastic model, and as a result, the core often isn't completely cut out, resulting in some tough pieces attached to each slice.Also, since it doesn't slice as wide a diameter as the plastic model, I am forced to manually trim the pineapple that the cutter failed to remove from the outer skin, in order to reduce waste.However, the steel slicer cuts much easier than the plastic model because it's edge is much sharper. I am very disappointed with the steel model, especially since it costs 2 1/2 times as much as the plastic model.

Chef's Choice International Professional Food Slicer Review

If you've ever owned or tried a "home" food slicer, you know they don't really work that well.This one does.
When I first got it, I tried slicing several items -- Pepperoni, bulk cheese (Cojack) and two different kinds of bread --regular "store" bread and a artisan loaf.The pepperoni came out in perfect, exactly the same thickness slices. The thickness knob did not slip, and the blade cut cleanly.My Cojack was perfect for grilled cheese sandwiches, and I got three even slices out of one slice of regular bread without tearing the bread! (That was a test to see what I could get away with). The artisan bread sliced perfectly for crostini.I sliced potatoes for potato chips, and they were all the same thickness,(actually, "thinness") and perfect for frying.
This aluminum and stainless steel German slicer is worth every penny you pay for it.The thickness adjustment knob stays where it's set, and the settings are repeatable, there's room under the blade for a large platter, the instant-on/off switch works perfectly, the motor is quiet and powerful, it's easy to clean and the slicer works exactly the way you always wanted a slicer to work--i.e., just like the one at the deli!
If you have the need, and room, for this rather large slicer, go for it!It's worth it.

World Cuisine Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer Review

For the money this is not a bad spiral slicer considering some list for over 100 dollars. The real sticking point is the fixed forward axle for whatever you are slicing. It consists of a round hollow cutting edge with an approximate 3/8 opening. This simply means whatever you are slicing will lose a 3/8 cylinder from its center. This is accepatable with Cucumbers and Zuchini but does not leave much when slicing Carrots, Raddishes or any other small diameter veggies.
I would not recommend this if you intend to use it for these smaller veggies but for potatoes, Apples and the like it is OK.

Rival 1060-C Professional Electric Food Slicer Review

The Rival® Slicer (Model 1060C) is a generally well designed unit. I say generally because there appears, in my unqualified opinion, to be one major design and/or manufacturing flaw associated with the product.

The first unit I received had a broken speed control knob that prevented any speed adjustment.This unit was exchanged (thank you Amazon for making that process painlessly easy) for another.This second unit also had a broken speed control knob, the failure point being identical to the first.The stem on the speed control knob is either woefully under designed or it is being forced into the wrong position (it has a detent) during assembly.This is really too bad since the unit looks like it would do the job for which it is intended quite well.

What's good about this product:

- heavy-duty construction (parts I expected to be plastic are made from cast aluminum)
- heavy-duty, thick stainless steel blade - removable for cleaning
- angled slicing surface
- tray to catch the slices of what ever
- cuts up to 5/8" slices
- integrated cutting board

What's not so good about this product:

- There are rubber suction cups on the four bottom corners to protect the surface the unit is sitting on and hold it in place while it's being used.This would be a great feature except that the suction cups stick to the surface and pull out of the unit when it is lifted up.
- the speed control knob as stated above (and sole reason for number 1 rating).

I bought this slicer after very extensive comparison.I wanted a slicer with a stronger motor, but was undecided if I really needed the tilt feature.This slicer is very well made.It cuts meats very thin.I thought I would need to buy the optional blade for thin cuts, but the blade it comes with has worked perfectly for me.I have cut up hamand meat roasts.The taste is wonderful, not to mention the cost savings.I also have cut thick steaks (the ones at Costco) thinner to make steak sandwiches.The tilt feature is advertised to gravity feed vegetables.I use if for meat as well because the food falls away from the blade.It is much safer and I can cut a large amout before I need to remove the accumulating pile of cut food.I highly recommend this product.I was also very concerned that cleaning could be so time-consuming that it might cause me to not use the product as often.This is not the case, clean-up is a breeze and can be completed in less than 10 minutes.

We laughed and laughed when we received this "as seen on TV" slicing and, well, grating "miracle product" as a gift. Who would actually use such a crazy thing?Well, it turns out that we would, frequently. It may not dice, but it does slice beautifully - thin and uniform, as well as grating everything from cheese to potatoes to carrots to ... you name it. We use it almost daily. If you're a vegetable eater or a cheese lover, you won't know how you lived without it. Easy to assemble and disassemble, and it's dishwasher safe, although you do have to position the parts correctly to maximize water flow and cleaning. You can do a fine or a coarse grate, a straight or a wavy slice. You can even get an ice shaver for making snow cones. It does have some limitations. While it grates all kinds of cheeses (softer cheeses work best when chilled), it can't slice cheese at all. Nor does it slice onions, celery or other "stringy" vegetables well. It will grate them, though. It slices cucumbers, carrots, summer squash and similar vegetables beautifully, but the chute is too narrow to slice most cukes or zukes whole -- you'll have to split them lengthwise.

Bron Original Stainless Steel Mandolin Slicer Review

I have used many different slicers (V-type, diagonal) and this stainless steel Bron which I also own is my favorite by far.The Borner V slicer I own does not have legs and is thus unstable, it is okay for quick non-uniform shredding and slicing.This model has it's own legs so your two hands can focus on the cutting.If you simply pay attention to where the blades are (put the cell phone down), you shouldn't cut yourself.It has a sliding guard for the food to rest in which attaches to the mandoline (which in the picture of the item is shown attached upside-down) and I believe to be safer than the free floating guards of the others.One plus of the steel construction is absolutely true uniform slices which are produced, which has not been experienced with plastic slicers.If you have the money, it is a great investment that should last you your lifetime.

This blade is the identical blade that comes with the Chef's Choice Model 610 Food Slicer. It's called a multi-purpose blade rather than serrated in the slicer description. I'm happy to have an extra blade. I also bought a smooth blade for thin slicing of ham and bread, and a blade sharpener, both of those from "Everything Kitchens"
I reommend the slicer, blades and sharpeners be purchased together as all are excellent high quality (I consider them commercial grade)

Meat Slicer Review

Excellent product for the price.
Instruction booklet/manual not very clear or too helpful.
Nearly broke the blade retaining screw trying to remove the blade after the first use - that's why the 4-stars and not 5 - need to remove screw by turning it clockwise.
Slices very thin perfectly - did some cheddar cheese, smoked ham, and roast beef with no problems.
Used machine constantly for 30 minutes first time and no "burnouts" or burning smell from motor. Cleanup is easy - once you remember to unscrew clockwise!
Definitely for home use, not an industrial strength machine but well fabricated and built.

Deni 14250 Premium Food Slicer Review

I bought this slicer hoping that I can use it for more than just bread and cheese.

Overall it is not bad, but starts sliding on the counter if you cut something dense such as hard cheese where you have to push harder. Themachine is simply not heavy enough to give it necessary stability.
Also the motor starts smelling and "whining" if you cut dense items for several minutes.

Forget cutting vegetables (peppers, tomatoes, etc.) the food pusher just does not grab the item well enough and they slide off the platform, rotating on the blade. Kind of looks funny, but in reality it is annoying. It might work if you use your hand instead of the food pusher, but I'd rather not try it.

A plus is the aluminum casing and the design that is easy to clean. Otherwise, if you really want to use a slicer daily for all kind of items, you'd be better off to buy a refurbished commercial one.

I have to amend my comment - just one week after it's arrival it's already BROKEN, the blade grinds and makes loud noises whenever it turns. In addition the package did not contain a warranty card and Keystone Manufacturing Company requests this card to be submitted within a week.

Aroma AMN-100 Electric Mandolin Slicer Review

I purchased this item not long ago to slice veggies and meats for stir-frys and other asian dishes.. To my supprise I've found myself using it more and more for everyday things as well.. To date its sliced carrots, celery, onions, mushrooms, radishes, bell peppers, potatoes, jalapeno peppers, and most of all cucumbers and zuccini..Its done them all in record time and with no fuss or mess..As far as grating goes, I've used it for parmesan cheese, Daikon (Japanese radish) and fresh ginger root all very easily..It's very easy to clean and easy to use.I highly recommend this product for those who do more than an occasional slice.

I've recently learned thorough other sources that there is a french fry blade thats also available for this item but not offered by Aroma.. (too bad) :(

Nesco FS-150PR Professional 150-Watt Food Slicer Review

With this Item there are some pluses and some minuses.On the plus side it has a powerfull enough motor to slice chesses, which some slicers dont recommend and cleanup is a whiz.On the minus side, the material the slicer is made of drags a bit on the item sliced, sometimes makingslices uneven. The grim reality of life is that meats and cheeses slide easier over plastic than they do over aluminum or steel.This problem likely exists with most slicers made of steel and aluminum, so dont discount this item becaues of this review.The easy cleanup is a good tradeoff for the functionality issues. Overall, for a slicer that I use every other week im satisfied with the purchase, but just a bit disappointed with the the function.My old plastic krupps slicer sliced thinner, although much more difficult to clean.

Kitchen Smart Electric Food Slicer Review

I wasn't sure about purchasing this slicer but I looked it up on eBay and it had pretty good feedback.I used the Deni slicer before but because it was gear driven, the motor busted when we pushed the ham harder than it could handle. This slicer is belt driven which gives a little more. We've used it since Thanksgiving 2009 frequently and it slices beautifully.
